Welcome to the Red Wagon Farm Blog

Red Wagon Farm grows vegetable year-round using organic techniques. We also keep chickens and ducks for eggs.

We sell our produce and eggs at the Alpine Farmers Market at the Hotel Ritchey Courtyard on Historic Murphy Street. We all sell homemade pickles, relishes and mustards.

The farmers market is open every Saturday of the year, from 9 am until noon.

January 1, 2018

Woke up Sunday morning and checked on the progress of the cold front. NOAA was  predicting a mid to late morning arrival. I felt it prudent to make one last check to make sure all was tucked in and ready for the cold.

Something I did not do in 2011 was to harvest my broccoli and cauliflower heads so here too I thought it prudent to see if there were any forming heads. No cauliflower but there were several broccoli. Most were not very big so I was   thinking it is better to get 50% of something as opposed to 100% of nothing, so to the fridge they went

A check on the well house to make sure the blanket behind the door was hanging and the light was still on. 5 gallon buckets with "dead" fabric covering the hose bibs. Finally one last pass through the garden to make sure there were enough rocks on the fabric.

Looked good crossed my fingers and went into the house.

54 degrees at 9:30 AM, nasty cloud bank to the north and pushing south. 35 at 11;30 and the ride begins.

5 AM Monday 17. Tonight is forecast for the cloud cover to clear and the winds to be light from the south. With clear sky's and calm Monday night will be a cold one. But by Wednesday early evening the winds will switch to the south for the most part and we can expect some nice warming

Hopefully Mother Nature is getting all of her hissy fits out of the way and the rest of the winter will be much milder. So crazy how it was into the 70's the day before all of this. Sure am glad I am not a plant

Keep warm and have a safe News Years Day!!!
